Recapping Recent Changes in Autism Travel

On April 2nd, 2024, Rowman & Littlefield will release the paperback edition of my book, Traveling Different: Vacation Strategies for Parents of the Anxious, the Inflexible, and the Neurodiverse. Besides winning awards like the 2023 Lowell Thomas Gold Award from the SATW Foundation and Honorable Mention in the 2023 ASJA Arlene Awards (Books that Make A Difference), a lot has occurred in the world of autism travel since the original book was released. Some of these changes have been incorporated into the paperback edition; others were conveyed via regular updates on my X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook accounts and via original content on my Substack and Medium newsletters. I thought the paperback release might be a perfect time to summarize these events and bring everyone up to date.

What’s Wrong in the Paperback?

Unfortunately, IBCCES (who oversees the Certified Autism Center program and autismtravel.com) made some changes after the paperback went to press, so please make note of the following properties, which are no longer Certified Autism Centers, though likely still autism-friendly (check on that!):

· Delta Hotel Phoenix Mesa, AZ

· North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport, NC

· Six Flags La Ronde in Montréal, Canada
